This rather claustrophobic train platform drives home the power of an incoming subway train. Because there is a wall to our backs and a wall separating us from the downtown track and platform on the other side, there is no escaping the violent push of air and roar of the train’s approach. Standing well back from the platform’s edge feels safest.
