I know: I haven’t yet blogged about my experience showing my photos at the Brown Girl With A Camera exhibit in Washington, DC last weekend! I will get to it soon. I promise. I’ve been busy processing the experience, noting the lessons learned, and poring over the photos I made as I explored a tiny bit of the middle of the city that afternoon.
What can I say about you, DC? You are beautiful. Your polished, touristy exterior glosses over things that made my soul weep. (An entire park full of homeless people? All of that high-priced housing, the White House, and the National Mall just blocks away and a park is all you can offer your fellow human beings? Oh, my heart.) I haven’t gotten to know you properly as an adult even though I visited you with my parents as a young girl. I hope to fix that very soon.
