The basketball hoops caught my eye as my train passed this spot one day. At first I thought it was a regular schoolyard. Then I noticed the razor wire along every inch of the perimeter fence and roof line and realized this is no ordinary school.
Horizon Juvenile Detention Center is located just outside the 3rd Ave. – 149th St. station in the Bronx. Every time I pass it on my way to or from Manhattan my heart breaks.
