Thoughts on Authenticity and a Photo from This Is Us

Posted on 27 November 201725 November 2017

During her Creative Live class on social media Brooke Shaden said quite a few things that deeply resonated with me. My main takeaway was authenticity: figure out what you want your social media presence to be and then be authentic in building that kind of environment in your online spaces. Other social media workshops I have taken primarily focused on increasing your numbers, popularity, sales, followers. I wouldn’t be on social media, if I didn’t want my work to get attention, but focusing mainly on those things always left me feeling slimed. I prefer Brooke’s approach: post when I have something to share, be authentic in my presentation, and the right audience will come.

I haven’t posted as frequently as I have gone through Brooke’s course over the past month, and I am okay with that. When I post it is because I have something meaningful to share, not to try to boost my numbers. No more slime for me. I’m reclaiming my social media presence.
