After the 2016 United States presidential election it took me at least a week to feel like making photos. On 14 November 2016 I carried my camera with me as I went about my business that evening and got back into the habit of capturing what I see. I warmed up by photographing wider scenes, but I was continually drawn to portraits and close looks at my fellow human beings. It was my way of getting back in touch with humanity in the face of what felt to me like a marked lack of humanity in the world. Here are my favorite shots from that night.
