I had been using Adobe Lightroom 6 (Lr) since not long after Team LLFA provided the funds for me to purchase it. All together with its previous iterations, I have used Lr for over a decade. About a year ago Adobe switched to a subscription model where instead of buying the software outright and getting a certain number of updates, you pay a $10 monthly subscription fee and get updates for as long as you have a subscription. The flip side is when you cancel your subscription your software stops working altogether. I am not willing to pay $120 annually for software that won’t work even at its most recent iteration if I need to cancel the subscription, so I’ve stuck with Lr 6.
Recently Mac OS flagged Lr saying it isn’t likely to be compatible with future operating system updates. Since then I have been teaching myself Corel AfterShot Pro3 (ASP3), and I’m happy with my progress. I still have some things to figure out, like how to recreate my keyword tree and what to do about the collections I created in Lr. But the more I crawl through the user guide and apply what I learn, the more comfortable I feel with the software. It’s a robust (though clunky in places, like it’s file system vs. library trees) replacement for Lr, both in terms of editing and library management. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a Lr replacement.
