When I first walked into the Tim Hetherington Photo Book Library at the Bronx Documentary Center (BDC) I was sure I had died and gone to Heaven. Named after the late photo journalist, who was killed while on assignment in Libya in 2011, the shelves are stacked from floor to ceiling with books on photography, many of them from his own personal library. This is a research library, meaning the books can only be viewed on site. It is usually open on Saturday afternoons and staffed by BDC volunteers. During my time staffing the library I began perusing a collection of Gordon Parks’ works, and I look forward to going back very soon to continue learning about that great photographer and his work.
My God, what a treasure that is. I could spend the remaining years of my life there and be perfectly happy.
You said it! I am lucky to have access to this resource right in my own neighborhood.
