“Where Love Is Illegal” is an ongoing photography series by photographer Robin Hammond. Through this series he shares the stories of LGBTQ people around the world. His portraits with each person’s associated testimony are powerful examples of love, pain, and hope. I particularly like that he let each person choose their pose and write their own testimony. He says because of prejudice and hatred they are usually not able to choose how they are presented to the world, and he wanted to give them a chance to do that on their own terms.
The Bronx Documentary Center (BDC) held an opening reception for the exhibit on 2 February 2019. Robin walked us through the exhibit and shared stories of the images that particularly stood out to him. He was thankful to the BDC for the amazing job they did on this exhibit, which will be on display in the BDC’s annex until March 24th. Gallery hours are Thur-Fri 3-7PM and Sat-Sun 1-5PM. This exhibit is free to the public, however the front entrance is not handicapped accessible. Please contact the BDC for accessibility information.
