One of these days I need to spend time alone at Bethesda Terrace people-watching and making photos. This place provides a wealth of opportunities for interesting shots like this one. The contrast between the sunny area and the shaded area sparks my creativity.
It feels strange to say an unscripted street photography scene “sparks my creativity”. I am not creating a scene; I am capturing what is there. However, 5 different people at this same spot at the same time would capture this scene in 5 different ways based on how they set their camera (or not) and process the shot in software/the darkroom. So yes, my creativity (coupled with years of experience) is definitely involved, and I need to own that.
All that to say I love this photo. 15/10, would do it again.
