Seeing from a Distance

Posted on 15 December 202115 December 2021
1 July 2021. Bronx (New York), USA.

I would have liked to get closer with my 50mm lens, but people can be (justifiably wary) of unfamiliar adults hovering around children. So I kept a respectful distance and captured what I could see. Had I had my zoom lens I could have filled more of the frame with the child on the swing, but that would have compressed the background, and I didn’t really want that. Filling more of the frame with the child up in the air would lead the viewer to interpret the scene in a different (not better or worse) way.
