A Day in the Bronx

Posted on 4 April 20224 April 2022
6 March 2022. Bronx (New York), USA.

I edited this photo live on Twitch a while back. As I walked my viewers through my thought process I pointed out the focus means the background is sharper than the foreground. I like that for this shot, because my intention is to show the overall environment, not focus on the person crossing the street in the foreground. I could have used a broader depth of field, but the image is good either way. There’s no one right answer here. It’s all about the artist’s intent.

There were images from that day which used that same depth of field to bring out the subject in the foreground and leave the background slightly out of focus. If you missed the livestream where I talked through those edits, you can catch the finished images over on Patreon as a member of Team LLFA.
